"We see, in many a land, the proudest dynasties and tyrannies still crushing, with their mountain weight, every free motion of the Consciences and hearts of men. We see, on the other hand, the truest heroism for the right and the greatest devotion to the Truth in hearts that God has touched. We have a work to do, as great as our forefathers and, perhaps, far greater. The enemies of Truth are more numerous and subtle than ever and the needs of the Church are greater than at any preceding time. If we are not debtors to the present, then men were never debtors to their age and their time. Brethren, we are debtors to the hour in which we live. Oh, that we might stamp it with Truth and that God might help us to impress upon its wings some proof that it has not flown by neglected and unheeded." -- C.H. Spurgeon . . . "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31, 32 . . . . .

SEDUCTIONS of SAMHAIN a.k.a. HALLOWEEN

Most children and teenagers will celebrate this day and receive treats and play tricks with no harm done, so what's all the fuss about? And if you see nothing wrong with your children getting dressed up as their favorite cartoon character, superhero, or some other harmless costume (hopefully not vampires, werewolves, witches and demons) just to go get some free candy, that’s your conviction. For myself, having been involved in the occult to a limited degree, I want to distance myself as far as I can from this day that witches and Satanists revere as one of their high unholy days.

NOTE: This article has been updated and revised.

Some use this day to share Halloween-style Gospel tracts, and sharing the Gospel is always a good thing – it’s our Great Commission!

But why this presentation and all these warnings about this day?

For one reason, "this day" is not at all like the days in which we who are about 30 years of age and older were!
These days find the religion of WICCA (Witches International Council of Covens Association), and other neo-pagan religions like modern day Druidism, and in general, the occult and occultic interests growing at an exponential rate.
In the ‘90’s there were about 8,000 Wiccans in the USA. Today there are over 1.5 million (that’s only counting witches in this association; it doesn’t include solitary witches who employ “the Craft” as it’s called on their own or in independent covens). There are more practicing witches now than there are Presbyterians!
To be fair, most witches don’t worship Satan, they worship the natural creation and the supposed forces within them. But it doesn’t matter if you’re eating pork chops or bacon or ham – it all comes from the same satanic pig!

Our society is so deceived that there are even those who call themselves Christian witches! Try Googling that sometime – you’ll probably be blown away!

Go to any (surviving) book store: look at the amount of space made available for new age and occult literature; compare this to the space for Christian books. This is a telling indication as to the movement of our society away from the biblical perspective to one that embraces the occult.

The primary force in this world of occult power is the Illuminati, which has been operating under many different names for the better part of 200 years now, working behind the scenes to slowly, gradually, imperceptibly draw the world into an occult world view, in preparation for the coming world leader (read that, the antichrist).
For a brief 9 min. video from the KNOW YOUR ENEMY series on the YouTube channel The FUEL Project, explaining its origin and purpose, watch that video: The Illuminati Agenda.

Halloween owes its origins on this pagan holiday of Samhain.

From Wikipedia:

Samhain was a Gaelic harvest festival (in Ireland) held on October 31–November 1. It was the "Celtic New Year" from the late 19th century. The date of Samhain was associated with the Catholic All Saints' Day (and later All Souls' Day) from at least the 8th century, and both the secular Gaelic and the Catholic liturgical festival have influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween.

The medieval Goidelic (a Gaelic culture and language) festival of Samhain marked the end of the harvest, the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darker half". It had some elements of the Festival or The Day of the Dead. Bonfires or 'bone fires' related to the pagan practices of the Druids and later, the Celts played a large part in the festivities.

Dave Hunt comments on this issue:

“Since so many believers considered Halloween to be "harmless fun", I wanted to show the history of human sacrifice that took place on Halloween in a Bone-Fire (Bonfire later) and in these giant wicker cages.”

The reason why they were called bone fires was because by the time the fires died out, all that was left were bones. Celtic Druids who witnessed Roman troops invading their home of Ireland would capture some of these soldiers, bind them, put them in wicker cages covered in tar, and burn them alive, paying homage to their false gods.

I’m not saying bonfires are bad, just explaining their origin, that’s all.

HALLOWEEN’s PAGAN THEMES

DEUTERONOMY 12:31
"You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.

DEUTERONOMY 18:10-12
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD.

HALLOWEEN: This TRICK is NO TREAT;

HALLOWEEN: INVITATION TO THE OCCULT?

A Mr. Ralph Linton wrote:

“It was a Druidic belief that on the eve of the Vigil of Saman, October 31, the Lord of Death called together the wicked souls that within the past twelve months had been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals as punishment for their evil deeds.

“This demon god then allowed these souls of the dead to return to their former homes to visit those still living there. Supposedly, to appease the Lord of Death and keep the spirits from harming the people, Druid priests led the people in diabolical worship ceremonies in which horses, cats, black sheep, oxen, human beings and other offerings were rounded up, stuffed into wicker cages and burned to death.”

The people would leave offerings of food to the dead on their doorsteps to avoid being haunted and plagued by them – hence the phrase “trick or treat”.
We understand that human souls don’t return to this world; they are either in heaven or hell, not roaming the Earth looking to haunt someplace or someone. We understand that these are demonic spirits masquerading as departed human beings! And therein lies the danger!

Eric Barger of TAKE A STAND ministries, has an online article where you can print up a pamphlet for free distribution to those who need to understand more about this issue. Also you can access a package that deals comprehensively with the occult.

So, what does the Bible say about Halloween? Nothing. But it does speak concerning witches, the occult, paganism, darkness and evil.

EXODUS 22:18
You shall not let a witch live.
So as Christians are we to obey this commandment? No, it was given to Israel not the church, and it was to prevent the kingdom of Israel from being overrun with pagan practices. As the church we are to seek to redeem these souls and free them from this false nature religion.

Flynn Huseby of ONCE LOST ministries was at a Swap Meet sharing the Gospel along with his ministry partner Kyle Peart and they encountered a witch. Flynn asked her, “So you’re a worshipper of nature? The goddess Gaia?” She admitted that, then Flynn said all creation is running down and one day the universe will end in what’s called ‘heat death’. Where will your goddess be then?” She said she never thought of that.

Scripture states that this sort of religious belief is completely contrary to the worship of the one and true GOD:

ROMANS 1:25
who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

The Bible definitely speaks against occultic practices, contacting and talking with (demonic) spirits; it speaks against witches and condemns not only the practice but also the people who are involved in it (If they don’t repent!).
As Christians, we are to have nothing to do with the occult. Tarot Cards, contacting the dead, séances, lucky charms, horoscopes in the newspaper, visiting fortune tellers, etc., are all unbiblical and can potentially harm a Christian's fellowship with God and open the Christian to demonic interference and oppression.

HALLOWEEN UNMASKED taught by Johanna Michealson

Most Christians used to know this and avoided these activities, but today Christians are becoming ignorant of these things and don’t realize the dangers involved. As mentioned twice already in other SBC teachings, those who adhere to Word-Faith doctrine have unknowingly been introduced to the principles of witchcraft (and if you don’t understand the connection between the two, see me after the teaching).

Harry Potter was a run away hit on the bestseller lists for ten years! Those books actually illustrate genuine witchcraft spells, rituals, and paraphernalia like “athames” which are ritual knives, and “human candelabras” (a severed human hand where each finger is dipped in wax and used as ritual candles) – essentially showing children “how to do witchcraft”.
Our society is so deceived that even in some churches, Harry Potter books are read in youth groups, exemplifying those stories as proper Christian conduct, where Harry is seen as a Christ-figure!

But the question still remains. Since there are ancient pagan and present occultic connections with Halloween what is the Christian to do? “The Day of the Dead”? Samhain is said to be a day in which the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest and is a “useful time to communicate with the dead for guidance and information”: this is called necromancy which is forbidden by the Scriptures.

King Saul sought to communicate with Samuel who died; he went to a medium (what’s known as a transchanneler today) to contact him, and was rebuked for it (1 SAM 28)

Some of my own thoughts on this matter:

I participated in Halloween as a child and teenager; I'm sure most of us have. How many of us as a result are committed witches, pagans or satanists? Nobody here, and not very many of our family and friends, I'm sure. But it does provide an open door.

I highly recommend Dave Hunt's book The Occult Invasion.
Dr. Greg Reid, a committed born-again believer and warrior for Christ has books, Nobody’s Angel (an autobiography of his time as a ritual victim and practitioner of the occult and how he was saved by the LORD Jesus Christ; on TTUF I have a four part interview with Greg about this book) as well as his book Diary of a Devil Hunter, a documentary book relating his many years as a private investigator, working with law enforcement, examining occult sacrificial sites and occult crime (If you can't find this book for sale, contact Greg Reid directly at: legendaryseeker@gmail.com.

Years ago I was talking to an Uncle of mine who happened to mention his friend’s son who explored the underground at Tucson Mall and discovered all sorts of satanic graffiti on the walls and evidence of rituals (melted red and black candles, diagrams on the floor). I told Greg about this and got him in touch with this man and his son.

An inter-agency law enforcement investigation was started, and it led to the arrests of drug cartel members who were also adherents of Sante De Morta, a satanic cult that worships death.

Every year we see stores and then front lawns strewn with skulls, skeletons, corpses, graves, ghosts and ghouls. It’s on this very night that Satanic and witch covens will sacrifice captured pets or wild animals. Not only that, Greg Reid was called by law enforcement in Texas to apprise a scene in which a dead baby was found in a grisly, ghastly situation that I can’t repeat. But there were satanic emblems, insignias and paraphernalia all around.

Satan and demonic spirits are very observant of symbols, objects, certain sensitive people and specific days and use such things for their own means and agenda.

Participating in 'Trick or Treat' may not in itself lead children and teenagers into occult practices; however, because there is such an interest in the occult today, and greater acceptance of such, people are more open to playing around with Ouija boards (a tool of divination, forbidden by the Bible), and seances, fortune telling, psychic readings, tarot cards, and the like. I did an investigation report on the Ouija board on my website, as well as a critique of a film based on the use of this tool of divination.

Today they have cute little pink Ouija boards for children. In places like Bethel Church, CA, pastored by Bill Johnson (I don’t consider that a church, or that man a true pastor), they promoted “Angel Boards” and “Destiny Cards” – just Ouija Boards and Tarot cards thinly disguised!

Anyone who saw the film The Exorcist may remember that the little girl, Regan, was possessed as a result of using a Ouija board. What many don't realize is that this film, based on the book (by the same name) by William Blatty was based on five real-life documented accounts (in the film these five accounts are combined in one case)!

Very experienced, well-versed witches and occultists won’t even use Ouija boards for the serious danger they represent. What’s that tell you?

These 'tools' are not merely games or 'just for fun' activities, and while they are not directly related to Halloween, this festival provides a convenient opportunity to get into some of these things. Many become open to such activities where they perhaps might not otherwise. Such exposure to this pagan holiday may prove to 'de-sensitize' people to the dangers inherit in the occult.

Any such involvement in these things affect people, even Christians through what’s called "entries" or "portals" - these are the means by which people become open to demonic interference and involvement, which in turn can lead to demonic obsession, oppression, delusion and, or even possession.

It is no wonder that God forbids us to be involved in these things, especially in these last days when even our LORD Jesus warned: "Beware that no one deceive you..." (MATT 24:4).
Spiritual deception, seduction and evil are at an all-time high (1 TIM 4:1-2; 2 TIM 3:13); certainly no less on such a day as Oct. 31st. If you allow a tiny bit of deception into your life, that cracks the door of your mind open a little bit further, leading to more deception!

It is my personal prayer and conviction that born again believers who know the LORD and love His Word should distance themselves from this pagan day and its associative occult involvement. If you don't agree, then you stand by your own convictions and as we all will, you will stand before one Judge, and that isn't me: it’s the LORD Jesus Christ.
But may you prayerfully consider this serious matter for the sakes of your own children. And perhaps we should ask ourselves regarding Halloween: What Would Jesus Do?

Some believe that because they are Christian (or claim to be), it’s OK if they get their fortune read, or play Tarot cards or use a Ouija board because GOD protects them. Wrong!
If you’re going to be foolish enough to get involved in things that are clearly satanic the LORD is under no obligation to keep you from the danger you’re putting yourself in! Many Christians I know regret deeply their foolish decision, and spent months, sometimes years getting freed from demonic oppression.

Do I think that a born-again Christian can be possessed? No – the Holy Spirit and a demon spirit can’t co-habitat, but a Christian can certainly be attacked from the outside and become oppressed!

Our society is in love with death – sacrificing babies conceived as a result of people having sexual pleasures. More than 90% of all abortions are performed because the woman doesn’t want to “be punished with a baby”.

Homosexual activity cannot produce life, a baby – but that lifestyle has been shown to decrease lifespan, drug and alcohol abuse and suicide are among the highest rates within the homosexual community.

Euthanasia is increasingly becoming more acceptable, even if just because a person is feeling depressed, and not seeing any purpose in life!

And we have this holiday that embraces the morbidity of death, the spirit world and the demonic.

PROVERBS 8:35-36
35 For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD; 36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those who hate me love death."

Then we have these occult and pagan and witchcraft and other nature worship religions, that appeal to people. Why? Because these religious systems won’t hold them accountable for their sin. Practitioners of these false religions genuinely believe they are on a right path.

PROVERBS 14:12
There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:5-8
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

EPHESIANS 5:8-11
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.
