"We see, in many a land, the proudest dynasties and tyrannies still crushing, with their mountain weight, every free motion of the Consciences and hearts of men. We see, on the other hand, the truest heroism for the right and the greatest devotion to the Truth in hearts that God has touched. We have a work to do, as great as our forefathers and, perhaps, far greater. The enemies of Truth are more numerous and subtle than ever and the needs of the Church are greater than at any preceding time. If we are not debtors to the present, then men were never debtors to their age and their time. Brethren, we are debtors to the hour in which we live. Oh, that we might stamp it with Truth and that God might help us to impress upon its wings some proof that it has not flown by neglected and unheeded." -- C.H. Spurgeon . . . "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31, 32 . . . . .

The TTUF STUDY on The REVELATION of JESUS CHRIST – Chapter TWENTY-TWO and CONCLUSION

~ by James Fire

Introduction:
REVELATION 22:1
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb
.

From Barnes Notes we have the following:
In the New Jerusalem [we have] the happy abode of the redeemed. The phrase "water of life," means living or running water, like a spring or fountain, as contrasted with a stagnant pool. See Barnes for John 4:14. The allusion here is doubtless to the first Eden, where a river watered the garden, (Gen 2:10, seq.,) and as this is a description of Eden recovered, or Paradise regained, it was natural to introduce a river of water also, yet in such a way as to accord with the general description of that future abode of the redeemed. It does not spring up, therefore, from the ground, but flows from “the throne of God and the Lamb”. Perhaps, also, the writer had in his eye the description in Ezek 47:1-12, where a stream issues from under the temple, and is parted in different directions.
“Clear as crystal:
Rev 4:6.
“Proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. Flowing from the foot of the throne. This idea is strictly in accordance with Oriental imagery. In the East, fountains and running streams constituted an essential part of the image of enjoyment and prosperity, (see Barnes for
Isaiah 35:6,) and such fountains were common in the courts of Oriental houses. Here, the river is an emblem of peace, happiness, plenty; and the essential thought in its flowing from the throne is, that all the happiness of heaven proceeds from God.”

REVELATION 22:2
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations
.

After consulting with various commentaries to seek out clarification on some things in this verse that always perplexed me, I’ve taken from the sum of them all, and rendered them in those areas that they commonly agree upon, and added my own to theirs:

The Old English causes some confusion, but from what I can discern, there is the river of life, and on either side of this, there are two streets running parallel to it: in effect, in the middle of this street(s) there is the river. In between the streets and the river, there are these trees described by its kind as “the tree of life”. So if one were traversing down the street and wanted to go to the bank of this river, you would cross through these trees that stood between the river and the streets.

All happiness, joy, contentment, pleasure, and plenty are known only as there is an abundance of water, for life cannot exist without it, and where there is vast supply, all of these goodly experiences are likewise vast in their supply.
The fact that this river flows from the throne of GOD and of the Lamb testifies that happiness, joy, contentment, pleasure, and plenty cannot happen without the provision of GOD and the Lamb.

Just as we have no true understanding of light as it was originally created, as we only observe light and its properties and benefits today in this broken world, we likewise have no true understanding of what water was. However, we shall witness the beauty and splendor, the wondrous works, and effects of both in the new creation, in which these properties shall exceed those of the old creation prior to the fall of man, and all the more exceed these properties after the effect that the fall on them.

There isn’t anything as refreshing to a thirsty body as a clear, cold glass of water; as well as this it’s long been known that for those ailing, sitting outdoors in the sunlight can work wonders, absorbing all the benefits of its light.

The light and the water as portrayed in heaven are, in my mind, emblems of those things that come from GOD Who alone brings refreshment, restitution, invigoration and effervescence, for He truly is the very Author of Life.
What then can be said of the fruit of these kinds of trees of life? And the leaves which purport to be for the healing of the nations?

Throughout Scripture and particularly in New Testament canon where the church is concerned, ‘fruit’ is an idiom used to express the vitality and work of GOD’s grace and His Spirit in the life of the believer. Those who are indwelt by the Spirit will bear the fruit of the Spirit (JOHN 15; GAL 5:22-23).
Am I suggesting that these trees and the fruit and leaves are not literal, but to be understood purely in a spiritual sense? Not at all; I believe when we arrive in the New Creation, we shall witness these things.
We shall touch these trees, and eat of its fruit, that will produce not once in a year, or once in a season only, but monthly throughout the year (and such time designations shows that we shall observe a calendar of sorts). We shall bend the knee and partake of these satisfying waters of the river that proceed from GOD’s Throne.

These leaves are stated to be “for the healing of the nations” and I’ve never understood, how there could possibly be a need for such in the new creation that is untainted by sin’s curse; that certainly included maladies, diseases, and sicknesses.
From what I gleaned of various commentaries, the leaves are provision of exuberant health which shall be perpetual and everlasting. I believe this is yet another emblem of our health – physical as well as spiritual health as received from Christ, the Great Physician!
I find in this last chapter of this book and the ultimate, final, and concluding revelation from GOD a delightful answer at the end of this grand story to what we’ve seen at the very beginning.

In GENESIS 2 (check out the Shine Bright/TTUF study for chapter two here) we saw various trees bearing all manner of fruit and the tree of life in the midst of the paradise garden of Eden. In REVELATION 22, we find in New Jerusalem the tree of life proliferated all along the street and river which runs throughout the Holy City.
Where the curse began in the Garden of Eden, the curse is removed in the City of New Jerusalem (vs.3), the ultimate city of Peace and GOD!

Everything that began in GENESIS, we find a fitting and appropriate ending in REVELATION; and an end to all the evils that befell us at the beginning with new and wondrously good things at the commencement of GOD’s new order in the New Heavens and New Earth!
The end of this story is the beginning of the new: what GOD desired all along – eternal fellowship with the very beings who were created for His pleasure:

REVELATION 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created
.

What we realize and shall realize with greater depth and clarity is the depths of GOD’s love for us by what He was willing to pay in order to restore fellowship with sinful man, redeeming them and transforming them into saints – citizens of the kingdom of GOD – through the shed blood of His only begotten Son.

REVELATION 22:3-4
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: 4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads
.

In REVELATION 7, we saw the 144,000 servants of YHWH, 12,000 from each of the tribes of Israel, sealed in their foreheads (vs. 3) with the name of the Father written there (REV 14:1). Here it states that “His Name” shall be in the foreheads of GOD’s servants. Is it the Name of GOD or the Name of the Lamb? Or is it again, the name of GOD the Father whose name shall be in the foreheads of all His servants?

One thing is certain, there will be no more curse – and so all service and labor will be blessed, not by “the sweat of [the] face” as was the case of the curse found in GEN 3:19. This labor will be solely motivated by love and this service shall be without curse, without burden, as a pure, undiluted form of worship of the LORD!

Saints, we will see the Face of our Beloved LORD Jesus – to simply gaze upon this Face, and know more intimately this One Who sacrificed so much for our benefit, this will be heaven in itself!
To be so ‘branded’ with the name of GOD in our foreheads denotes blessed ownership by the One Who redeemed (‘purchased’) us! There IS NO greater honor than this!

REVELATION 22:5-6
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. 6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done
.

From Hall’s Explication of Hard Texts we have the following:
And, in that presence of God, there shall be no shadowing of that bright glory and resplendence, no changeable course of day and night; but the Sun of Righteousness ever shineth there (MAL 4:2), so as there can be no need of candle or material sun to enlighten them: for in God’s light they shall see light, and they shall reign for ever and ever.”

The darkness shall pass, and all will come into the glorious light of GOD; so much wickedness and evil have been perpetrated under cover of darkness, though none of it was ever hidden from GOD:
PSALM 139:12
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee
.

Such darkness always gave man this false sense of security, that their deeds will remain secret, hidden, and thus they arrogantly boast of impunity for their iniquity. They are gravely mistaken!

REVELATION 20:12
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works
.
And while those who work such evils in darkness shall be condemned, no further experience of night shall be had for us His saints will live in the Light of GOD that proceeds out of New Jerusalem, and shall reign forever and ever:
DANIEL 7:18,22,27
18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even for ever and ever. 22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom. 27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him
.
GOD is always faithful and true to reveal His sayings and secrets to His prophets, and to His friends (and they are often one and the same thing!):
AMOS 3:7
Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

JOHN 15:15
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you
.
So we are never ‘in the dark’ about GOD’s plans for the ages; we of the New Testament are especially blessed as we have the entire canon of Scripture at our disposal. The day is coming still however, when we will no longer “see through a glass darkly” but then face to Face” (1 COR 13:12). And we shall walk in the light in all its fullness, as He is in the light (1 JOHN 1:7).

Here in verse 4 it states that these things must “shortly come to pass” – since we are aware that we’ve been in the last days ever since the LORD Jesus came to this forlorn world (HEB 1:2), and confirmed at Pentecost (ACTS 2:16-17; JOEL 2:10) and when Israel came into the land “the second time” (May 14th 1948; ISAIAH 11:11) – these might be considered the beginning of the last days, and seen as “the former rain” (JOEL 2:23) while the latter rain will not be moderate but extensive (144,000 rather than 12 receiving the Spirit of GOD).

The beginning of these last days, and the end of them, all told will be these last two thousand years, and as GOD sees a thousand years as a day (and a day as a thousand years), one could see, from GOD’s perspective, He’s only been away ‘for the weekend’.
So ‘shortly come to pass’ stands from such an Eternal Being.

And then another aspect to this, concerns the foretelling of events as described by the LORD to the seven churches, which in themselves occurred shortly after the writing of this book.
Then there is another aspect to this as seen in verse 7:

REVELATION 22:7
7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
The word “quickly” in Greek is tachu, and one rendering of this word can mean “shortly, without delay by surprise, suddenly”; as one might suggest, as fast as lightening:
MATTHEW 24:27
For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be
.
We don’t know the day or the hour (‘time period’) when the LORD shall return to catch His bride away, so we want to be ready always, as He can come at any moment (MATT 24:36,42; 25:13) and this constant expectation can have a purifying effect on the saint (1 JOHN 3:3).
Let us therefore “keep the sayings of this prophecy” (to keep close, under constant guard and scrutiny like a guard in a prison ward; watchfulness, to keep from escaping, etc). There is blessing in such keeping!

REVELATION 22:8
8 And I John saw these things and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God
.

We have the testimony of the apostle John previously in his Gospel account (JOHN 21:24-25), and his testimony is confirmed by the other Gospel writers and verified. These are not fantasies or over-worked imaginations of men – no other ‘religion’ ever conceived of the central message of the Gospel: that the Word was made flesh and dwelled among us, that He revealed the Father by His own nature as the Son, that He showed Himself as the Way, the Truth and the Life, and that He laid down His life, allowing Himself to be sacrificed as High Priest and Lamb offering both, for the sins of the world, and that He rose from the dead, bringing eternal life to all who believe.

The Christian faith is solely dependent on the work of Christ, and none of the disciple’s other than simply to believe and obey, and even these are GOD’s gifts to us, granted according to His ability – not our own, via the Holy Spirit indwelling us.

Because the Gospel account is valid and dependable and truthful, we can therefore be assured that what the apostle John saw and heard is likewise true; we have enough prior revelation in the Scriptures that verifies what he saw in the heavenlies.

As stated in the Jamieson, Fawcett, and Brown commentaries:
Both here and in Revelation 19:9,10, the apostle's falling at the feet of the angel is preceded by a glorious promise to the Church, accompanied with the assurance, that "These are the true sayings of God," and that those are "blessed" who keep them. Rapturous emotion, gratitude, and adoration, at the prospect of the Church's future glory transport him out of himself, so as all but to fall into an unjustifiable act; contrast his opposite feeling at the prospect of the Church's deep fall
And an interesting observation by People’s New Testament Commentary:
Among the idolatrous tendencies that early showed themselves in the church was angel worship. This not only rebukes it, but the worship of any being, earthly or heavenly, who is not divine.”

No doubt the readers of this book would be rebuked by this incident, if they were in any way inclined to engage in the worship of angels; The apostle Paul warned the Galatian church of this very thing:
COLOSSIANS 2:18
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind
,
None are worthy of worship from man, except for the Creator of man; this then excludes the (likely) mightiest creature He ever fashioned, Lucifer himself, who if we ever saw him in our natural state, would be awestruck by his power and beauty (even though he is tainted: the Earth itself is likewise tainted by the curse of sin, and yet beautiful in its majestic vistas and panoramic scenes). In our supernatural state however, we will look upon him with astonishment, seeing him as he really is and say,
Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?” (See ISAIAH 14; esp. vs. 16).

Once we step into eternity, the only One that will be perpetually and continuously worshiped will be the LORD GOD! GLORY to HIS NAME!!

REVELATION 22:10
10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand
.

In contrast, the command to Daniel the prophet (who was given revelation directly related to those granted to John) was:
DANIEL 12:4
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased
.
(Isaiah also was so ordered: See ISAIAH 8:16; 30:8).
Since John was given the instruction to “seal not” – and this was 2,000 years ago, we know that the time of the end began a lot earlier than many would presume regarding “the last days” and “the end of the world” (which we touched on earlier).

That prophecies were recorded hundreds if not thousands of years ago and discovered in our contemporary world as either fulfilled or nearly ready to be fulfilled is evidence of Divine Design and can’t be refuted for the specificity of these writings!

REVELATION 22:11-12
11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be
.

In the passing away of the old Earth and old Heavens, and the establishment of “all things new” (REV 21:5), everything and everyone is in an eternal state of being, both the citizens of heaven and the residents of hell; this verse addresses the perpetual resolution of the two classifications of human souls: the unjust and filthy as well as the righteous and the holy.
There is no chance for change in either capacity: the wicked shall remain so for all eternity and the sanctified shall also remain in their condition. This is a joyous truth for us, but an insurmountable burden on the lost.

There can be no remediation for sinners once passed from this life; for the saints, our purity and holiness are perfectly secured without any chance of change! We shall remain holy throughout the glorious epochs of heaven!
And the LORD is prepared to render reward in both capacities: privilege for the pure and punishment for the perverse.

REVELATION 22:13-15
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie
.

Jesus is the Great Initiator – the Alpha and the Great Completer – the Omega; He is from everlasting to everlasting, without beginning, without ending, eternally begotten of the Father. He is the Be all and End all of all existence:
COLOSSIANS 1:15-17
15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist
.
The LORD Jesus is the ‘mirror image’ of the Father; HEB 1:3 says that He is “the express image”, ‘express’ from the Greek word, khar-ak-tare meaning “a graver (the tool or the person), i.e. (by implication) engraving ("character"), the figure stamped, i.e. an exact copy or (figuratively) representation): express image.” The LORD Jesus said, “he who has seen Me has seen the Father” (JOHN 14:9).

They are indistinguishable from each other, except in their actual Person and the roles that they play as Father and Son. Jesus became the observable “image” of the invisible GOD, so that we may behold the glory of the only begotten of GOD the Father (JOHN 1:14).
He is the only begotten (whereas we are adopted and begotten of GOD through the spiritual rebirth (1 PET 1:2-4,9)), which is to say, He has all of the traits, abilities, powers and nature of GOD Who is His Father – just as any human son inherits from his father all the traits, abilities, powers and nature of a human being.

He is the first-born, that is, not necessarily born first, but as was the substantiated custom among the patriarchs “the first born” having preeminence above all other children. He is not at all ashamed to call us brethren (HEB 2:11), but He is preeminent among all of the church, as He is the Head.

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

Does this not sound like salvation by works and that entrance into heaven is by right only? It certainly does! But how can this be, when everywhere throughout the New Testament it’s clearly expressed that salvation is by grace alone, apart from works (EPH 2:8-9) through faith (ROM 4:2-5). Is this a serious contradiction? Not in the least – let’s walk through this:

In order to successfully obey GOD’s commandments, one needs the Spirit of GOD (the very Spirit of Holiness that manifested the Law of GOD is the only One Who can live up to it); all of us have fallen short of the glory of GOD and can by no means be justified by the Law (ROM 3:20,23).

It is GOD that works in us do be willing and to perform His holy will:
PHILIPPIANS 2:13
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
And because of this, we are able to “work out
[our] salvation (that aspect of salvation known as sanctification)”:

PHILLIPPIANS 2:12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling
.
Only a child of GOD, born of His Spirit, can ever do these things according to the grace of GOD; thus this “right to the tree of life” is a spiritual birth-right (See JOHN 1:12-13; "power" in the KJV can be translated from the Greek as "right, privilege, etc."), granted to those who are born again, and have been transformed into the (adopted) sons and daughters of the Highest!

REVELATION 22:15
For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie
.

After all that is described within the Holy City, it addresses these that are without; yet because we know that this is the new creation, and that all unredeemed souls such as sorcerers, adulterers, murderers, etc. have been consigned to the lake of fire (the second death) as a result of sentencing at the Great White Throne Judgment, we know that these are not merely outside of the Holy City, but outside of the very Kingdom of GOD, whose capital is the New Jerusalem.

How blessed it will be, that there will no longer be any perversions, no mind-altering drugs, no more killing, and no more worship of false gods, but everything will be done in worship and honor of the LORD GOD, Creator of all!

REVELATION 22:16
16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star
.

Angels, in addition to being enlisted in the hosts (armies) of heaven (PSALM 103:19-21; 148:2; LUKE 2:13; see also HEB 12:22), are also protectors of GOD’s people and messengers who delivered GOD’s will and word to people.

The angel that the LORD dispatched to John the apostle testified to the truth of this revelation, granted to the church of His saints (1 COR 2:7-10), His friends (JOHN 15:15) that He has made known all the will of the Father.

He is the Root of David (REV 5:5), the very beginning of the plan of GOD to establish the Davidic Kingdom (2 SAM 7; PSALM 89), with all the promises associated with it. He is also the offspring, the WORD made flesh, born of Abraham, born of David (MATT 1:1), the son of Mary (MATT 13:55).

Lucifer was once referred to as the day star (i.e., morning star; ISAIAH 14:12), as it was his part, being the “anointed cherub that covers” (EZEK 28:14), thus being an overseer of the cherubim, a herald of the Most High, the one who precedes YHWH just as the morning star precedes the Sun.

Yet because he had fallen into iniquity and abomination, this title was rightly stripped from him, and granted to the more appropriate Personage of the Son of GOD, Who preceded the Father when He came to this world, announcing the kingdom to come and the arrival of the Father to His wayward world, redeemed by the blood of the LAMB, and who will enjoy fellowship with His children!

REVELATION 22:17
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely
.

On the doorstep of GOD’s House, there is a Welcome mat; He is not austere or remote or indifferent to the people of Earth; He extends His nail-scarred hands with an earnest invitation in a supreme demonstration of grace and good will.
To say He has bent over backwards is a severe understatement: He was crucified and bore the entirety of sins upon His whip shredded shoulders for our sakes, out of a heart of love.
The LORD Jesus Christ Himself stated,
JOHN 6:37
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out
.
Those who will approach the LORD in a spirit of contrition and humility will never know rejection; the Bride of Christ, the church of the living GOD can attest to this as each and every one of the saints have understood the truth about ourselves:

We are unholy; we cannot measure up to the holiness that is essential to His being, and any who hope to be accepted of Him must be holy. Therein lies the problem. We cannot obtain holiness by any means at our disposal, be it through morality, philosophy, religion, spiritual belief systems, what have you.

The only holiness GOD can accept is His own; thus when Christ died in paying the penalty for our sins, He also imparted His Spirit – and the Holy Spirit that takes up residence in the heart of every true believer as a result of repentance and receiving Christ by faith imparts the very same holiness that GOD requires, both positionally (holiness place vicariously upon every born again believer) and practically (the gradual and growing outworking of holiness in the character and behavior of the saint).

The Spirit bids welcome just as the Bride does, to all who are spiritually thirsty for truth, for acceptance with GOD, to establish a relationship of love with our Creator – “whosoever will” may come and partake of “the water of life” that is to say, spiritual life, freely: this being the costliest position and condition that there is, none but GOD Himself could pay the price and has done so, so that it may be freely received by all who will accept it through the Person of Christ.

REVELATION 22:18-19
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book
.

The same warning about adding to or taking away from the Word of GOD is found in:
DEUTERONOMY 4:2
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you (See also DEUT 12:32; PROV 30:6).
Since GOD esteems His Word even above His Name (PSALM 138:2), we would do well to likewise esteem His Word – every word of His Word. I find it particularly worrisome that in too many of modern translations (and paraphrases – I find the idea of paraphrases antithetical to the care necessary in preserving the Word of GOD as He intended it to be conveyed) words, phrases, entire verses or even paragraphs have either been omitted or footnoted with an explanation in the margin that “these verses do not appear in the oldest of manuscripts” suggesting that such does not belong, because they aren’t present in the oldest of manuscripts.

Yet those manuscripts, which are indeed among the oldest we have, are not at all the most reliable manuscripts, but have had Gnostic influences, the philosophies of which do not recognize fundamental truths regarding the Person of Christ: His Deity, His virgin birth, His sinless nature, His atonement by blood for the salvation of souls, His resurrection, His Second Coming, and more.

On this subject, check out the TTUF article How Near-East Invaded the West - Part 1 of 3: The Gnostic Religion and Revival.
Those that would irreverently tamper with the Word of GOD, even having the audacity – no, the blasphemy of changing it, prove that they have no citizenship in the kingdom of GOD, for He Himself states that those who do so will have their part “[taken] away … out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book”.

REVELATION 22:20-21
20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
.

So ends this revelation of Holy Writ, with need of nothing further, as all things which we need in order to live godly in Christ Jesus, He has provided therein (2 PET 1:3). Additives to the Word of GOD will only serve to diminish the available efficacy of its power. It’s been said before, “If you add to the truth, you really subtract from it”.

Yet while this canon is complete with this final book of the Bible, we shall witness first-hand the revelation of Jesus Christ at His coming, when we see Him, and become like Him (1 JOHN 3:2) – complete with glorified and sanctified minds and bodies with which we shall be able to apprehend the fulness of His revelation and astoundingly wondrous Person (PHIL 3:12).
