ARE YOU HOLY or HOLEY?

In HEBREWS 12:14 it says,

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

We want to see the LORD don’t we? So we must pursue holiness.

I believe that those who have trusted in Christ, are born again, who have Christ’s righteousness transferred to them have that position of holiness placed upon them; so as the Father looks down upon us, He sees the righteousness, the holiness of Christ upon us.

And it’s those who have these blessings upon them that will seek after practical holiness – that is, growing in daily experiences of transformation from carnality and sin to spiritual maturity and holiness. They become more on the outside what they are inside!

Throughout my life as a Christian, I’ve had the recurring question come up periodically: What does it mean to be holy - and what is holiness? 

The stock answer and a valid one to be sure is “purity from all sin and evil.” As I thought about that I came to the realization that:

Holiness is an absolute purity or completeness in all of the godly virtues as well as an absolute purity or completeness from all sin and evil. 

If one looks at Jesus, GOD incarnate – that is GOD made flesh (a human being) there is your supreme example of holiness in heart, in nature, in word, and in deed. He is absolutely the fullness of all that is holy – the completeness of love incarnate, truth incarnate, as well as grace, peace, joy, justice, mercy, compassion, knowledge, and wisdom incarnate and all else that is good, including goodness incarnate! You could say that holiness is ‘spiritual wholesomeness’, completeness, with nothing good lacking at all.

INTRODUCTION: We continue now with examining some finer points of the law in these next few chapters, and we see that GOD is watching over every aspect of Israel’s society, how He wants things to be done.
This is how it is for a believer in Christ; living for GOD is of course not only for Sunday church meetings and deals only with our ministry during such assembling for services, but it encompasses our entire lives.

We’ll be seeing a lot of laws where if they are broken, the penalty is death. Critics point to such passes to prove that GOD is blood-thirsty and cruel.
Yet the LORD is making a point: He is GOD, the Creator of all things, thus all things are owned by Him, which means He is LORD: He gets to make the rules! And being GOD, He is worthy of obedience. Only a rebellious, sinful heart would despise obedience to the LORD. And GOD is making another point: that we should take obedience seriously, for disobedience is rebellion and sin and such bear the wages of death, because GOD is holy and cannot associate with sin. Therefore, any soul that sins, is separated from GOD (which is why we all die, because all have sinned, and are separated from the only source of life!).

GOD is also all about private ownership (a concept that Socialists and Communists despise) and commands that justice is carried out on any that steal, kill and, or destroy – such citizens of this fallen world are apt to do, following the example of “the god of this world” who is himself the master thief (JOHN 10:10).

This is a wake up call for All Americans, and a final warning to repent and turn to Christ for salvation.

Satan has been busy deceiving the masses, blinding their eyes to God our Creator, and the truth of His Word.  But is all lost?

Have we have abandoned this world to the unbelievers, to the ungodly, to the Christ-haters?  Those who hate God, those who hate truth, those who love darkness and hate the Light are affecting every single person in this land.  They are taking this country and turning it into a haven for evil - the devil's playground. 

As Christians we are called to be salt and light in this dark world. Our lives, our witness, our testimony ought to be drawing other's to Christ. The bible is clear that we are not to be deceived by the vain philosophies of men. We are not called to join forces with this world.  We are not to compromise the truth of God's Word.  We are not led by emotional feelings, or popular vote. We are to follow Jesus, walk by faith, put on truth, Biblical Truth, and stand on every word of its solid foundation!  

As we experience the fulfillment of end time Bible prophecy, we will witness society  disintegrating into violence and immorality.  The explosion of immorality can be compared to the evil that existed in the days of Noah. That's where we are today.  We are witnessing the very signs that herald the soon return of Jesus!

Jan Markell puts what is happening into perspective, “The world is not falling to pieces, rather the pieces are all falling into place.”  Very well said!

Christian, there is hope. God has promise to never leave us or forsake us. As the pieces fall into place, the Bride of Christ will soon be taken to her Bridegroom! Those of us who are believers must continue to serve the Lord in this world as salt and light, standing on the authority of His Word, and refusing to give into the demands of a pagan society no matter the cost!

There isn’t a sane soldier on the planet who would even think about entering the field of battle without his munitions. Well behind enemy lines or securely in a home base, he can find enough security to lay these things aside.
Yet when we consider that this entire world is “the field” in the LORD’s parables (MATT 13:38), and that we should look at it as a battle-field (and the LORD Himself as our only refuge), because Satan is the ruler of this present world system and his ideologies as well as his dominion is entirely at odds with those of the LORD, we really can’t afford to think otherwise.

INTRODUCTION: When God gave the 10 commandments, He didn’t expect Israel to keep the law; He wanted Israel to turn to Him because they would not be able to uphold the law on their own strength and with a sinful heart they would not want to.
The theme of dependency on the Lord has been shown time and time again with the Israelites, seeing that God had taken them through situations beyond human capabilities so in those situations God would show Himself mighty and the people would marvel and understand that He is God and they were not.

INTRODUCTION: Mount Sinai is a pivotal point for the Nation of Israel because it’s here that Creator GOD - YAHWEH, is going to introduce Himself as Israel’s official King. Seeing that mountains represent kingdoms in the Bible, Mount Sinai served as a visible throne where God was and revealed Himself audibly and gave His governing laws – The Ten Commandments. This is a Theocracy where God Himself rules the people. Having God as your king is a blessing! And Israel is about to receive this blessing, but they don’t realize it, even though Moses does!

By the way, the Israelites were very familiar with Kings making laws for their people to keep. I.e. An ancient Babylonian King named Hammurabi was around near the time of Abraham. He created what is known to be the Hammurabi Code of Laws (282 rules). These laws were engraved on a black stone pillar in the shape of a finger – The Decalogue was engraved on two stone tablets by the finger of God (EXOD 31:18). King Hammurabi’s stone pillar and laws were similar to yet inferior to The Ten Commandments.
