GENESIS 28:1-5
And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan. ² Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughers of Laban thy mother's brother. ³ And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people; ⁴ And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham. ⁵ And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

My favorite men's group, the Wednesday Brothers of Thunder, is a leaderless core group which meets weekly for an hour of Bible study and an hour of prayer. We stay leaderless because we expect the Lord Jesus Christ to come and take charge of things, and the fact that He does so has been our experience year after year. God always shows up and surprises us with His insights and the spiritual refreshment of our lives.

The responsibility for coordinating the weekly meeting rotates around the room. So it was recently that my friend Mike McKenna found himself opening to us the eleventh chapter of Luke. Mike, and two other brothers in the group, had grown up in the Roman Catholic Church so they knew the Lord's Prayer (the "Our Father") backwards and forwards. Mike admitted his discomfort in stopping to think through this prayer--he told us (in jest) that the text printed in red was "evidently optional and could be omitted because it made the whole chapter much easier to accept."

Let’s continue to remember that we’re studying the story line and family history of Jesus our Savior. Jesus comes from Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel).

This portion of the Saviors’ story highlights His ancestors’ sinfulness. Sins such as: child favoritism, deception, disobedience, hatred and a desire for revenge and murder. In this part of the story line, the whole family of four - Isaac, Rebekah, Esau and Jacob took God’s matters into their own hands and it left a messy trail.

The TTUF STUDY on The REVELATION of JESUS CHRIST – Chapter NINE

Introduction: I am in awe of the holiness of GOD, His grace and truth and peace – His almighty power, knowledge and wisdom, His absolute goodness and pure love – and I am also in awe with such equitable wonder (but in a negative sense) of mankind’s utter rebellion and even hatred of GOD, so that they adamantly refuse to repent.

I have heard people say, “I’d much rather die and suffer unimaginable horrors in the fire of hell for eternity than suffer in the presence of GOD for a minute!” I was astonished at that remark that literally left me speechless.

This is one reason why GOD sends down judgment – so that people’s hardened hearts will be broken of their obstinate pride and rebellion, and make no mistake, there will be multitudes beyond number that will come out of great tribulation (REV 7:14). We see in this chapter such self-willed and aggressive rebellion in the heart of people, who while suffering such terrible judgment at the Holy Hand of GOD, refuse to repent! Absolutely astounding!!

Thank the LORD that we who know Him have willingly bowed our knees, yielded our hearts and submitted our very lives to the One Who is worthy of these and far more: the LORD Jesus Christ. The day is coming when these rebellious souls will be in the very presence of GOD Almighty, unable to stand, for all of His glory, but compelled to their knees and declare that JESUS IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER!

PHILIPPIANS 2:9-11
⁹ Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: ¹⁰ That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; ¹¹ And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

GENESIS 26 – by James Fire

INTRODUCTION: We learn a lot from our parents; and sometimes we learn even when they aren’t intending on teaching us: because children are careful observers of their parents, they are in that sense always teaching them, in all the good and the bad and the ugly that we do.

Abraham (and Sarah) were no different in their education of their children, and we know that Isaac learned these lessons well because we see him repeating the same practices that his father Abraham did – both in the good and the bad capacities.

Pastors, Sunday School teachers, as well as parents have to be mindful that it’s not just in the lessons, advice and counsel that we give, but also our actions and responses to people and situations that teach our children, students and disciples.

Our ultimate role model is Christ Jesus: His deeds and words are flawless truth and righteousness and if we follow His example in all things, not only can we not go wrong for ourselves, but also everyone else who observes our words and conduct!

Let’s be intentional and choose the wise and the good example we see in Scripture, particularly where we see the perfect example of Christ.

Moses said to the children of Israel, just before they cross over Jordan and for the first time, enter into Canaan, the promised land the following:

DEUTERONOMY 30:19-20
¹⁹ I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: ²⁰ That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
