WALKING The COVENANT WAY: PART 4 of 8: the ABRAHAMIC Covenant

This next covenant, like the Noahic covenant, is an unconditional covenant, with nothing for Abraham to perform or contribute, except that he simply believed GOD – which he did, and that brought about the reckoning of righteousness attributed to Abraham (ROM 4:2-3).

We see Abram’s name first in GENESIS 11:26; we learn there that he was the son of Terah, and the brother of Nahor and Haran. This man from the land of Ur of the Chaldees was obviously a Gentile (there were no Hebrews then; he becomes the first!), and more than that, a Babylonian.

Yet by grace, GOD called Abram out of his father’s house, out of his native land and directed him to a far distant land which he would eventually inherit. Abram at seventy five years of age heard GOD beckoning and responded to Him (GEN 12:1-4).

In those verses GOD promised to make of him a great nation, grant him a great name, and that he would be a blessing (vs. 2). He also promised to bless those who blessed him and curse him that cursed him; GOD reiterates that He would bless all the families of the Earth, through the life of Abram (vs. 3).

The LORD manifested Himself to Abram in Shechem and declared that He would give the land (he was now standing on) to his descendants; GEN 12:7.

There are two primary chapters that teaches us about the Abrahamic Covenant: GENESIS 15 and GENESIS 22.

So without any further delay, let’s dive into GENESIS 15 and see what this reveals to us!

The GOSPEL Of MATTHEW - Chapter 1 Cont.: The MESSIAH and HIS KINGDOM MESSAGE

The WORD Incarnate was made flesh and sent to this fallen world; He came to His own (Israel) for a very specific purpose, for the time was fulfilled that He should appear to His kinsmen. And what was this purpose? What was His mission?

The MISSION Of the MESSIAH –

MATTHEW 10:5-7
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

When sought after by a Gentile woman, a Canaanite, to heal her daughter, the LORD replied to her:

MATTHEW 15:24
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

The prophet Isaiah has been long known as the Messianic prophet and for good reason; a vast quantity of his writing, particularly from chapter 40 and on, deals with the Messiah. The Gospel of Matthew employs the Scriptures from this particular prophet most readily, as observed here, regarding the Mission of the Messiah:

ISRAELOLOGY - Why Israel Matters To the Biblical Christian - Part One

Bible scholars and theologians study with a methodology known as Systematic Theology. This is a study that organizes biblical subjects and topics into categories that makes it more accessible and easier to study and understand.

Some of the subjects in Systematic Theology are such as follows:
Soteriology - the study of salvation.
Pneumatology - the study of the Holy Spirit
Ecclesiology - the study of the church.
Christology - the study of the Person of Jesus Christ.
Eschatology - the study of prophetic last things and events.

And many others subjects...

One subject however is missing in any version of Systematic Theology you might look at:

Take your Bible and find Genesis chapter 12 and place your thumb there; now find Acts chapter 2 and place your finger there and pick up your Bible holding it in between these two chapters.
There are a lot of pages there between your two digits! What primary (among hundreds of secondary others) subject that this section deals with? ISRAEL!

Do you suppose that Israel is important to God?
You would sure think so, judging by how much Scripture He has given that deals with this nation (and there is a lot more said about Israel well past Acts chapter 2 as we shall soon see)!

A Study in Paul’s Epistle to the Romans – Parts 1 & 2: “On the Road of Righteousness” Chapter Eleven – The Remnant of Israel

PART ONE of CHAPTER 11

Early on in the book of Genesis we see the development of two cities: Jerusalem (formerly Salem) and Babel (later, this abandoned city-state becomes an empire, Babylon). These two serve as the dual themes in the Scriptures that portray the work of God – Jerusalem and the work of man and Satan – Babylon.

It’s important to note that in the book of Revelation; both cities are in view, having a longevity that spans nearly the whole of human history. But only one work endures beyond this present reality of creation: Jerusalem, in the form of the eternal New Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven, but is nonetheless the habitation of all the “seed of Abraham” which numbers as “the stars of heaven and the sand on the seashore” (GEN 22:17; HEB 11:11-13) – that is, the seed of believing Israel (the sand on the seashore, referring to the earthly kingdom of the Messiah) and the church (the stars of heaven, referring to that heavenly kingdom of the LORD Jesus Christ, the Head of the church and His bride); ROM 10:11-13.
