We see, on the other hand, the truest heroism for the right and the greatest devotion to the Truth in hearts that God has touched. We have a work to do, as great as our forefathers and, perhaps, far greater. The enemies of Truth are more numerous and subtle than ever and the needs of the Church are greater than at any preceding time. The WHY and HOW to IDENTIFY FALSE TEACHERS

Here we present yet another new TTUF contributing writer, Josh Boubion, assistant pastor of Calvary Chapel Appleton. Here is his bio he provided for us:

Joshua Boubion was born April 3rd, 1985, in Tucson Arizona. Raised with a single mother, low income, a younger sister and three older brothers. The Lord broke him down at age 13, [when] one night he decided to commit suicide and give up on this life. Instead he decided to die to himself and trade in for His righteousness He freely gives at the cross.

Since then God has used him in teaching the Word of God to equip the saints for the work of the Ministry. From youth, college, and adults in seeing fellowships formed by the Lord. Currently an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Appleton, with a beautiful wife, and 3 children serving the Lord.

Josh’s full bio is posted on our TTUF team page: to view this page, go here to visit all of our members!

So without any further delay, here is the message from Josh:

The WHY and HOW to IDENTIFY FALSE TEACHERS?

As a Pastor I am reminded that I am to equip the saints for the work of the ministry (EPH 4:11-12). I realize that the true believers in the True Church in the times we live in will be few, since the Bible says:

MATTHEW 7:14
“Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (See also 1 TIM 4:1)

So, my heart is to reach those few and equip them and not the many with this article.
Why is there a need to identify false teachers? We have returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls, the LORD Jesus Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life (1 PET 2:25; JOHN 14:6) and we don’t want to be led astray Him and be deceived, nor do we want others to be (2 PET 2:15). Part of equipping the saints for ministry is preparing them for tough situations; it’s not a fun experience dealing with those who come in opposition to God’s Word. I understand that false teaching is the new normal in this world (2 THESS 2:10), but regardless of the times we are called to earnestly contend for the faith (JUDE 1:3).

So how do we identify who a false teacher is?

Peter says in
2 PETER 2:1
“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you,”

Just as the false prophets in the Old Testament drew the Children of Israel away from God, so too these false teachers will do the same to the Church today.

1 JOHN 4:1
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

And Jesus said in
MATTHEW 7:15
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

On the issue of wolves, follow this link that exposes three prominent voices in the church today, who are indeed Wolves but in Wolf's Clothing.

With all the Mega Churches and the advancement in our media by which teachings uncountable are available today we need to:

1 THESS 5:21
“Test all things; hold fast what is good.”

We are to question all things by using the Word of God just as the Bereans did:

ACTS 17:11
“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”

(A great discernment site that uses this verse as their call to the saints is The BEREAN CALL).

When we turn to the Word of God we know what is true and what is false; we don’t base our decisions on how we feel, think or on what is ‘Politically Correct’.

Think about it, this is not the enemy’s new strategy. In Acts we read how Satan tried to come against the Church through persecution; that didn’t work, it only increased the Church all the more. So, he switched tactics and begin to infiltrate the Church by acting like one of us. Paul warned the Ephesian elders in:

ACTS 20:29
"For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.”

You can always see a trend in false teachers: they always bring destruction.

2 PETER 2:1-3b
“Who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
“And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
“And their destruction does not slumber.”

But notice: they are all about secrecy, when they present their teachings (2 PET 2:1)!

GALATIANS 2:4
“And
[this occurred] because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage),”

JUDE 1:4
For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Not only do they bring in secrecy, but heresy as well; they choose to follow another teaching for their own gain. Denying the Deity of Christ is an obvious heresy, here is a few examples of that:

1 JOHN 2:22-23
“Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.”

1 JOHN 4:2-3
“By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”

2 JOHN 1:7
“For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”
Deceivers are actually of the spirit of Antichrist! It’s apparent that these false teachers will be destroyed:

Read through 2 PETER chapters 2 and 3

Paul likewise understood their end and decided to sound the alarm by warning the Church non-stop for 3 years (ACTS 20:28-32)! The Lord will rebuke them for what they have done, since God is just. In the meantime, believers are not to give in to the demands of the world around them and be compromised by them (ROM 12:2).

(Pergamos was an example of such compromising with the world.)

Another sign of a false teacher according to:
2 PETER 2:2
“And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.”

There are lots of cults and so called Christian Church’s that have huge followings. Why is that? Notice what is stated in verse 2 “. . . because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.”

What they are teaching, and preaching is something against the Bible and because there are those who want to hear what they want to hear, having their ears tickled with pleasant doctrines, they flock to those who blaspheme the way of truth:

2 TIMOTHY 4:3
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears
;"

There is Easy Believism: Thinking you can ask Christ in your heart and you can continue to live however you want – in sin or not. The Bible doesn’t say that!

There is the Health, Wealth and Prosperity Gospel: They say God wants all of us to be rich and healthy; and if you are not healthy or wealthy then you are in sin, or that you are lacking faith. That’s why you are not rich and healthy! The Bible doesn’t teach this!

There is the ‘Blab it and Grab it Theology’: “Speak it into existence!” they say.
That’s the same lie Lucifer gave Eve in the garden. That you can be just like God. Understand, that there is only ONE GOD and you are not HIM! Only He can speak things into existence! The Bible doesn’t teach that we have such power!

Paul told Timothy in:

2 TIMOTHY 4:2-3
“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;”

Sad to say, these false teachers also exploit others because of their own greed; they are only teaching to gain something from the crowds, not to FEED the flock but to FLEECE the flock!
The way they exploit people is by deceiving you and I into thinking they are the real deal.

Some ungodly character traits in 2 PETER 2:10-11 are apparent in these teachers: they walk in the lust of the flesh, in fulfilling their own desires. They despise authority, and are presumptuous, self-willed, and have no problem speaking evil of the Glory of God. Since there is no fear in them!

Here are some gold nuggets for you as we look a little further into who these false teachers are according to:

2 PETER 2:12-22.
"12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
"14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
"17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
"20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."

They don’t understand the things that are spiritual, that is why they personally think God’s Word is a joke and have no issue in making profit from it (1 COR 2:14).
They have no problem flaunting, publicly, their lifestyle of luxury before everyone that they are asking money from. Such as their mansions, sports cars, expensive suits and jewelry.

For instance, Jesse Duplantis currently has been asking for $54 million for his 4th Jet (a Falcon 7x); he does not want to pay from his own wealth from donors but says God will pay it through others.
They come in promising freedom from bondage when they themselves are in bondage.

They target unstable souls (new believers) and entice them through sexual immorality. Just like putting bait on a fish hook to catch a fish, they entice through the lust of the flesh mentioned in GALATIANS 5:19-21; they also use lewdness (our natural desires which can manipulate us).

In Conclusion:
These false teachers have nothing to offer us as believers, they are like clouds with no water (JUDE 1:12). Only Jesus Christ who is the True Shepherd can lead us into all Truth (JOHN 14:6).

The current trend for false teachers is to: 1) discourage verse by verse teachings, 2) the doctrine of a literal creation, 3) they are against teaching Biblical prophecy and 4) discourage teaching through Genesis to Malachi.

Here is a link of a current false teacher called Daniel Fusco teaching at a Pastors Conference in Tucson AZ: (he does exactly what is mentioned above, in discouraging teaching through the Old Testament as well as teaching prophecy; and he encourages pastors to take heed to Rick Warren, a known false teacher)!

AFTERWORD by James Fire:
An excellent warning from pastor Josh. If this article has blessed you, you can find more of pastor Josh’s teaching on his HOUSE of TRUTH youtube channel.

Let’s not think we are being ‘overly critical’ or ‘judgmental’ of others when we put their teachings to the test using God’s Word. We will often hear from others that we are being Pharisees, splitting doctrinal hairs or being divisive or unloving or bringing dis-unity to the body of Christ. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Truth of God’s Word is where the church stands unified – and any that teach anything contrary to the Word (1 TIM 1:9-10), these are the one’s bringing dis-unity!

EPHESIANS 4:13-14
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive
